St Joseph Affordable Homes News Edition 5 – 2025
HIA Affordable Housing Award
We are proud to have been named as winners in the Affordable Housing category at the 2025 HIA Tasmanian Housing and Kitchen & Bathroom Awards!
The Campbell Town development brings new life to land that has remained vacant for nearly 200 years. Developed in partnership with Loreto Community Housing and Midlands Anglican Parish, this project delivers 20 thoughtfully designed two and three-bedroom homes. It blends a modern heritage aesthetic with the historic character of Campbell Town.
St Joseph Affordable Homes is proud to be a part of this project, demonstrating how heritage-sensitive design and modern housing solutions can come together to create lasting impact.
Thank you to all of the St Josephs staff and contractors who contributed to this site. This accolade would not be possible without your hard work and support.

Project Highlight – Cambridge
We have recently completed and handed-over a development in Cambridge, delivered for Loreto Community Housing. The project includes eight new dwellings and the refurbishment of one existing unit, offering a mix of two-bedroom, three-bedroom, and four-bedroom homes tailored to meet the diverse needs of families.
Situated within a quiet internal lot in a well-established residential area, the development has been carefully designed to complement the existing heritage-style “railway cottage” on the site. This is reflected in the building forms, materials, and exterior colours, creating a cohesive and respectful streetscape.
The site features eight unique floor plans, with a combination of single and double-storey detached dwellings and some conjoined units, forming a compact cul-de-sac that promotes community while preserving privacy.

Apprentice Host Highlight – Vince Plumbing Pty Ltd
St Joseph Affordable Homes currently employs 28 apprentices. 10 of these are hosted through our subcontractors. We are incredibly grateful for the support of our apprentice host companies for sharing their knowledge with our young people and taking them on as their own.
In this newsletter, we would like to highlight Vince Plumbing. They have qualified two apprentices so far (Sean and Connor) and currently host Shan, Max and Codie.
Nigel Vince had 25 years’ plumbing experience when he and Lesley started ND & LL Vince Plumbing (now known as Vince Plumbing Pty Ltd.) in 2000. Beginning solo with small contracts and basic gear, he steadily grew the business, hiring apprentices and plumbers as demand rose. Bradley joined his dad as an apprentice in 2009 along with Nigel’s brother Tony, followed by Jarrod, Lance, and Jacko. Now, Nigel’s grandson and daughter also work at Vince Plumbing, making it a true family owned and operated Tassie business.
The business has evolved from a one man team into a one-stop-contracting-shop and, in 2024, Bradley stepped up as Director while Nigel eased into semi-retirement (kind of…).
Today, Vince Plumbing employs 18 people, many long-term, reflecting its strong family culture and old-school values. Known for reliability and lasting partnerships across Hobart, it’s a true testament to hard work and care for people.
Thank you to the Vince Plumbing team for their ongoing support of St Joseph Affordable Homes, in particular the care and attention they give to our apprentices.

Affordable Units for MyHome
We are proud to have delivered a series of modern units at 14 Nielsen Esplanade, Bridgewater, for Loreto Community Housing. These are now available for purchase through the MyHome Shared Equity Program.
These 2-bedroom homes offer an opportunity for eligible Tasmanians to step into home ownership with the support of MyHome – a government initiative making housing and home ownership more accessible for low to moderate income earners.
Positioned to capture the natural beauty of the nearby waterfront, each unit offers modern finishes with low-maintenance living, making them ideal for first-home buyers.
We’re thrilled to see these homes now on the market and making a real difference for Tasmanians. This affordable housing product is diversifying our build program while still reflecting commitment to building not just houses, but futures.
The properties are being sold by EIS Property. Eligible buyers can explore the listings on their website or contact agents Joel Nielsen (0427 725 581) or David Gunning (0438 447 996) for more information.

Work Health & Safety
October was WorkSafe Tasmania Month 2025, where Tasmanians come together to build safer, healthier, and more productive workplaces across the state.
To recognise WorkSafe month, we shared a coffee with our staff and contractors at our Triabunna site. This was a fantastic opportunity to catch up as a team while highlighting the importance of both physical and psychological safety on our sites.
We look forward to hosting a similar event at one of our Northern sites in November.

Seeking Joinery Installer Subcontractor
We are looking to secure the services of an experienced subcontract Joinery installer to support our Joinery operations in southern Tasmania.
The ideal contractor will be established in this function and be able to demonstrate a strong history of residential Joinery installation.
For further information please contact Adam Beschle on 0448 082 943 or joinery.admin@AOHTAS.ORG.AU.
We would appreciate if you could share through your networks.
